Associate Professor, University of Auckland Business School
Alex Sims is an Associate Professor in the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Auckland Business School. Prior to switching her research to distributed ledger technology (DLT), Alex’s legacy areas of research and publication were primarily intellectual property law (particularly copyright law) and consumer law. Her interest is not how uses of DLT fit within existing laws and practices, rather the changes in law and practices required to accommodate the use of DLTs, in particular, Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs). The law’s development cannot occur in isolation, areas informing the law’s design include philosophy, sociology, anthropology, psychology, political science, economics, finance, history, cryptography, computer science and so on.
