I am motivated by revolutionizing how society trades and interacts. Bitcoin and the security properties of its blockchain provide the technical means to catalyze societal evolution. My research therefore focuses on the security, privacy and performance of blockchain and related decentralized financial technology. Because this technology is still in its infancy, I aim to understand and quantify the tension points and tradeoffs in terms of security, privacy and performance, while building scalable and trustless blockchain protocols. Part of my research is e.g., the design of a practical and scalable blockchain layer and the architecture of privacy preserving transaction protocols. I take particular joy in conceiving protocols that increase the accountability and transparency of existing financial systems. My research is inherently multidisciplinary and I frequently collaborate with colleagues worldwide, one recent example is an SoK on layer-two blockchain transactions.
