Paolo Tasca is a Digital Economist specialising in P2P financial systems. He has advised on blockchain technologies different international organisations including the EU Parliament and the United Nations. Paolo is founder and Executive Director of the Centre for Blockchain Technologies at University College London (UCL CBT). Recently, he has also been appointed Adjunct Fellow of Griffith University Law Futures Centre in Brisbane and Honorary Research Professor of Sogang Univ. Blockchain Research Centre in Seoul. Previously, he was Lead Economist on digital currencies and P2P financial systems at the German Central Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt.
Paolo is the co-editor of the book “Blockchain Economics: Implications of Distributed Ledger Technology” and the book “Banking Beyond Banks and Money”. He is also co-author of the bestseller “FINTECH Book”. He has been Associate Editor of the “Journal of Risk Finance” since 2016 and Guest Editor (2017) and then Editorial Board Member (2018) of the “Journal of Digital Banking”. In 2018 he has joined “Frontiers in Blockchain” as Specialty Chief Editor for Fourth Industrial Revolution. In addition, he is the author of various scientific papers about systemic risk, P2P systems and distributed ledger technologies, which have been published by prestigious international scientific journals.
As Executive Director of the UCL CBT, Paolo is also directly involved in various research projects concerning different application fields of blockchain technologies. Among them, the BARAC Project (Blockchain technology for Algorithmic Regulation and Compliance) supported by EPSRC, and the P2P-IoET Project (The Internet of Energy Things: Supporting peer-to-peer energy trading and demand-side management through blockchains) supported by Lloyds Register Foundation.
Dr Tasca holds an M.A in Politics and Economics (summa cum laude) from the University of Padua and a M.Sc. in Economics and Finance from Ca’ Foscari, Venice. He did his PhD studies in Business between Ca’ Foscari Venice and ETH, Zürich. His doctoral dissertation on Systemic Risk in financial markets was subsidized by the Swiss National Science Foundation with more than 500.000 CHF.
