Background text:
Carolyn A. Wilkins will provide her insights on recent developments in crypto/DeFi, reflecting on the underlying governance structures at play. In what ways have decentralised structures offered the chance to reimagine governance? Are these models as “democratic” or “decentralised” today as many would have us believe, and are there limits to how decentralised they can become in the future? What steps can be taken to evolve from markets based on faith to deeper forms of public trust?
Following on from a twenty-year career at the Bank of Canada, including serving as Senior Deputy Governor, Carolyn is now an external member of the Bank of England Financial Policy Committee. She holds a position at Princeton University and is an advisor to the Oxford University’s Creative Destruction Lab. She has also been named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women in 2018 and 2019.
